CHICAGO, Ill. – Extending their win streak to seven straight matches, Saint Xavier earned a straight-set victory over the Judson Eagles, 25-14, 29-27, 25-13 inside the Shannon Center on Tuesday night.

Box Score | Season Stats

Junior hitter Helena Atton (Herbert Henry Dow HS / Midland, Mich.) finished with 12 kills in the win, as the junior committed just one attacking error to hit for a .524 average. Setter Courtney Joyce (Western Illinois / Chicago, Ill.) tallied 34 assists, while libero Mariana Ayala (Navarro CC [Tex.] / Bayamon, Puerto Rico) collected 14 digs to anchor the back line.

After the Eagles (14-7, 2-4 CCAC) scored the first two points of the match, SXU responded with eight of the next nine to move in front, 8-3. The Cougars (18-3, 4-1 CCAC) led comfortably throughout the remainder of the set, now allowing Judson to get within five points during the rest of the set.

The closest set of the night came in game two, as both sides traded the lead back and forth six times throughout. A 7-2 run for the Cougars midway through the set put the home side in front 14-11, and SXU would go on to earn set point at 24-21 with a Judson service error. The Eagles rebounded, taking the next four points to gain their own set point at 25-24. Bridget Krasowski (St. Joseph's [Ind.] / Oak Lawn, Ill.)'s kill and Alex Lambros (Oak Forest HS / Oak Forest, Ill.)' ace turned the tables back in favor of the Cougars, 26-25, but a service error and Judson ace gave the Eagles another chance to even the match at one set apiece, 27-26. Taking advantage of back-to-back errors, Joyce closed out the 29-27 win with a kill to put Saint Xavier in front by two games.

The Cougars then shut the door on any hopes of a comeback, jumping out to a 12-2 advantage and leading wire-to-wire in game three. Kate Bontrager (Indianapolis [Ind.] / Valparaiso, Ind.) and Rory Manion (Florida Atlantic / Elmhurst, Ill.) teamed up for five consecutive kills during the rally, and another six-point run later in the game saw the Cougars build a 22-6 lead.

The seven-match win streak is the longest for Saint Xavier in five seasons, dating back to 2012, when the Cougars last qualified for the NAIA Tournament. SXU will go for eight in a row on Wednesday night, when they take on Trinity International from the Shannon Center, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
