Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior quarterback John Perryman (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) and sophomore linebacker Sean Kenney (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, when the honors were released by the conference office Thursday. Both players were instrumental in the No. 17 ranked Cougars' 21-7 upset over No. 8 Northwestern Oklahoma State University last Saturday in Chicago.
Perryman completed 26 of his 31 pass attempts for 218 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His touchdown passes went 15 and 42 yards in the first half and then had a 10-yard completion for a score early in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Perryman also finished the game with nine carries for 15 yards on the ground.
Kenney recorded nine solo tackles and one assist, including a tackle for a loss of one yard. In addition, Kenney also had a fumble recovery in the game as SXU forced the Rangers into four turnovers.
SXU (1-0 overall) heads to Whitewater, Wisc., on Saturday, September 10, to face NCAA Division III powerhouse University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
