ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Saint Xavier volleyball claimed their first conference win of the season Tuesday night, in a dominant sweep over the host Robert Morris Eagles, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16.

The Cougars (12-3, 1-1 CCAC) hit for their second-highest percentage of the season, hitting .364 by collecting 44 kills with just eight hitting errors on 99 attempts. Senior hitter Bridget Krasowski (St. Joseph's [Ind.] / Oak Lawn, Ill.) came up just shy of a double-double in the win, tallying a team-high nine kills with nine digs, while Kate Bontrager (Indianapolis [Ind.] / Valparaiso, Ind.) collected eight kills with 12 digs and setter Courtney Joyce (Western Illinois / Chicago, Ill.) recorded 36 assists.

In the opening set, an attack error gave Robert Morris (5-5, 1-1 CCAC) a brief lead at 8-7, but the Cougars responded with four on the next five points, then closed out the set with a 14-2 run that ended with five straight kills, three from Krasowski.

Three straight kills from Bontrager in game two fueled a 5-1 rally that would give Saint Xavier the 8-4 edge. The Cougars would extend their lead throughout the rest of the set, highlighted by a five-point run that would double-up the Eagles at 20-10 en route to the 25-14 win.

With Robert Morris working to force a fourth game, the home side briefly took a lead early in game three, 4-1. SXU responded by putting the game out of reach with a 13-3 run that included four kills and a service ace from Jessica Belseth (Eisenhower HS / Merionette Park, Ill.). The freshman closed out the match with the kill at match point, finishing with seven kills and a .778 hitting percentage on the night.

The Cougars will close out the week with a non-conference matchup at Trinity Christian this Friday night, September 15. Tipoff with the Trolls is set for 7:00 p.m.
