CHICAGO, Ill. – Senior forward David Rebollar (Rock Valley CC / Rockford, Ill.) led the way Wednesday night, scoring both goals in Saint Xavier's 2-0 victory over Cornerstone (Mich.).

Box Score | Season Stats

Rebollar put the Cougars (3-2) ahead in the first half, then put the match away with another score after the halftime break. In a game that saw the visiting Golden Eagles (0-1-1) out-shoot SXU by a 15-11 margin, Rebollar would have the night's first shot on goal, connecting with a header in the 21st minute. Mike McLaughlin (St. Laurence HS / Hickory Hills, Ill.) would be credited with the assist thanks to his cross from the far right sideline that cleared the front of the box.

The Cougars pressured Cornerstone early in the second half, until Rebollar found the back of the net again in the 58th minute. A perfectly timed run and pass from Elias Leyva (Moraine Valley CC / Addison, Ill.) gave Rebollar the opportunity to break away from the back line, work the ball around the keeper and calmly put the shot away for the two-goal advantage.

Senior goalkeeper Frank Valle (McHenry HS / McHenry, Ill.) earned his third shutout of the season, and has yet to surrender a goal at Deaton Field this season. Valle finished with five saves in the win, including three stops in the final seven minutes to keep the clean sheet intact.

The Cougars will wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday, when they travel to face No. 4 Northwestern Ohio. Kickoff from Lima, Ohio is set for 2:00 p.m. EDT.
