GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – SXU Men's Soccer would fire nine shots on goal Wednesday night, but were unable to convert in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the host Aquinas (Mich.) Saints.

The Cougars (2-2) took 15 shots throughout the match, being narrowly out-shot by the Saints' (2-1) 18 attempts at goal, but the Aquinas goalkeeper was able to collect each shot.

The home side would take the lead in the 26th minute with their first goal of the night, and go into the halftime break with the 1-0 advantage. Despite SXU pushing for the equalizer in the second half, Aquinas would double their lead in the 59th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Frank Valle (SR/McHenry, Ill.) finished with seven saves of his own on the night, while David Rebollar (SR/Rockford, Ill.) fired a team-high four shots, with two shots on goal. Orlando Tapia (JR/Crystal Lake, Ill.) posted two shots on target, and three attempts overall.

The Cougars now return to Deaton Field for their next match, scheduled for Wednesday, September 6 when they host Cornerstone (Mich.). Kickoff against the Golden Eagles is set for 7:00 p.m.
