Senior Courtney Correa - One of three 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Track & Field Scholar-Athletes for SXU

Kansas City, Mo. – Senior Courtney Correa (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) and juniors Sierra Downey (Stickney, Ill./Morton College/Morton West) and Ellie Willging (Freeport, Ill./UIC/Freeport) of the Saint Xavier University women's track & field team were all named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athletes when the national honors were released by the NAIA national office Friday.  In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.  Correa was a mathematics (secondary education) major, while Downey is majoring in sociology and Willging in political science.

The Saint Xavier University women's track & field team completed its season on May 12 at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill.  The squad sent Willging to the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., as an individual qualifier in both the 5,000 (5K) and 10,000 meter (10K) runs.  Willging won the 10K race Thursday night claiming her second national championship title of the year after winning the indoor 5K back in March.  She competes in the preliminaries of the outdoor 5K later this afternoon.
