Kansas City, Mo. – Junior thrower Anthony Kowalczyk (Chicago, Ill./Steinmetz) of the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team was named a 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete when the national honors were released by the NAIA national office Friday.  In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.  Kowalczyk is a business major at SXU and had a successful 2017 season setting school records in the indoor weight throw and the outdoor discus and hammer throws.

The Saint Xavier University men's track & field team completed its season on May 11 at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill.  The squad sent senior Abel Hernandez (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) to the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., as an individual qualifier in the 10,000 meter run.  Hernandez finished eighth overall in the race this past Thursday and earned All-American honors for his finish, the first male track & field athlete to claim All-American recognition for the outdoor season.
