Gulf Shores, Ala. – After winning Saint Xavier University's first national title for track & field this past March in the indoor 5K (5,000 meters), junior Ellie Willging (Freeport, Ill./UIC/Freeport) added another national championship to her collection Thursday evening winning the 10K (10,000 meters) race on the opening night of the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.  Willging finished the event in an impressive time of 36:28.78, which was 14 seconds faster than the second place finisher.  With the title, she also captures her fourth NAIA All-American honor with two of them coming in cross country, one in indoor track and one in outdoor.

"Another truly amazing performance by Ellie tonight," said SXU women's track & field coach Lisa Ebel.  "She ran an extremely smart race and I could not be more proud of her.  This is a great way to close out the first day at the national meet and now I'm excited to see how she performs in the 5K."

Willging is also competing in the 5K race at the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.  She runs in the preliminaries on Friday, May 26, at 6:10 p.m.  If she qualifies for Saturday's finals in the 5K, the race will be held at 5:30 p.m.
