South Bend, Ind. – With senior Taylor Thompson (Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) and junior Hannah Cruz (Orange County, Calif./Woodrow Wilson Classical) finishing first and second overall in the field, the Saint Xavier University women's golf team claimed a second-place team finish at the Pilot Spring Invitational Saturday at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind. The Cougars finished the Invite with a team score of 671 shooting a 329 Friday and a 342 Saturday. Host Bethel College won the tournament with a total score of 656 (331, 325). Thompson won the individual title with a two-round total of 156 (75, 81), while Cruz earned second place with a 161 (82, 79). The event featured 10 teams and 51 collegiate golfers.
Senior Katie Reno (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tied for 26th place in the field with a two-day score of 176 (85, 91). Junior Andrea Strohmaier (Genoa, Ill./Ashford University/Genoa-Kingston) rounded out the team scoring for SXU with a score of 178 (87, 91) to tie for 31st place.
Saint Xavier now prepares for the 2017 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Golf Championship, which begins on Thursday, April 27. The two-day event is held at the Flossmoor Country Club in Flossmoor, Ill.
