CHICAGO - Led by a game-high tying 21 kills by senior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South), the No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University volleyball team defeated No. 7 seed Judson University (Ill.) in four games 30-19, 30-22, 29-31, 30-28 in quarterfinals action of the 2007 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Tournament Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars (30-12 overall) advance to the semifinals and will host No. 3 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, at the Shannon Center.
In addition to Breshock's impressive offensive performance, SXU was led by senior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) with 50 assists. Junior outside hitter Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) posted 16 kills in the winning effort, while seniors Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College) and Eileen Carls (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) were both tough defensively for the Cougars with 23 and 22 digs, respectively. Judson University was led on the offensive end by senior outside hitter Erin Bultinck, who finished with 21 kills. The Eagles end their season at 13-23.
Saint Xavier (30-12 overall, 8-1 CCAC) will now take on No. 3 seed Olivet Nazarene University in the semifinals of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Tournament. The match will take place at the Shannon Center in Chicago on Thursday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m.
