Southfield, Mich. – Senior outside hitter Sean Barry (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) and sophomore outside hitter Jake Olson (Oak Forest, Ill./Calumet College/Oak Forest) each racked up seven kills as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team cruised to a victory over Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at the Don Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich. The Cougars (6-13 overall) won the match in three straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-17. Olson also led SXU with eight digs on the day and his kills and digs totals were both career-best marks for him. As a team, Saint Xavier was sharp offensively posting 38 team kills to just 13 errors for an attack percentage of .325.
Freshman setter Aaron Kummer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) was solid as well for the Cougars with 44 assists, six digs, two kills and two block assists. Freshman middle blocker Ben Gabor (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic) impressed defensively at the net recording four total blocks (one solo). Senior outside hitter Dan O'Keefe (Evergreen Park, Ill./Loyola (La.)/Evergreen Park) added five kills and a pair of block assists.
Saint Xavier (6-13 overall/2-5 CCAC) gets back to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Tuesday, March 21, with a home match against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
