Sylvania, Ohio – Junior outside hitter Kevin Mayer (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) finished with six kills and a pair of block assists, but it was not enough as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team dropped a road match to No. 6 ranked Lourdes University (Ohio) Friday evening at the Ebeid Recreation Center in Sylvania, Ohio. The Cougars (5-13 overall) struggled offensively falling in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-9. SXU managed just 16 team kills in the match and racked up 27 attacking errors for a negative attack percentage of -.124.
Freshman middle blocker Ben Gabor (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic) posted three kills, a service ace and three total blocks (one solo). Freshman setter Aaron Kummer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) added 10 assists, four digs and two blocks (one solo). Senior outside hitter Sean Barry (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) and senior libero Brandon McGinnis (Evergreen Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Brother Rice) each scooped up six digs. Junior middle blocker Thomas Matonis (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) recorded four block assists for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (5-13 overall/2-5 CCAC) heads to Southfield, Mich., on Saturday, March 18, for a non-conference match against Lawrence Technological University. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (eastern) start at the Don Ridler Field House.
