Des Moines, Iowa - A goal by freshman forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) with just over 14 minutes remaining in regulation broke a 2-2 tie and gave No. 9 ranked and No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University a 3-2 victory over No. 2 seed St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in the semifinals of the 2007 NAIA Region VII Women's Soccer Tournament Friday in Des Moines, Iowa. With the win, the Cougars (17-3-2 overall) advance to Saturday's Region VII Championship game and will face No. 5 seed Trinity Christian College (Ill.) at 2:30 p.m. in Des Moines.

SXU scored the game's first goal when senior midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) found the back of the net less than two minutes into regulation off an assist from Steinhaus. St. Ambrose senior forward Amanda Wilford (Eldridge, Iowa) tied the game, 1-1, in the 15th minute on an unassisted goal. The Cougars closed out the first-half scoring when senior midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Bryan) scored a goal in the 21st minute off assists from senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) and LoPresti, respectively. Wilford struck again for St. Ambrose in the second half when she scored another unassisted goal with 15:21 to play in regulation. However, Steinhaus answered with the game-winning goal just over a minute later to secure the 3-2 victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg) finished with seven saves for SXU, while SAU's keeper posted 12 saves. Saint Xavier (17-3-2 overall/8-1 CCAC) will now play No. 5 seed Trinity Christian on Saturday, November 3, at 2:30 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa, for the NAIA Region VII Tournament championship. The winner of Saturday's championship will receive an automatic berth in the 2007 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, November 14, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
