Women's Basketball - Thu, Nov. 1, 2007
Kansas City, Mo. - Following its most successful season to date, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball program will head into the 2007-08 season with a No. 6 national ranking, its highest ever in the preseason poll, when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released its Women's Basketball Division I Preseason Top 25 Poll late Wednesday. Last season, the Cougars tallied their highest ever win total (29) with an overall record of 29-3, finished as conference regular-season and tournament champions, and earned their second straight "Sweet 16" berth at the NAIA National Tournament.

"One of our main goals since starting this program back in 2000 was to become a contender at the national level," said Hallberg. "Being ranked this high in the preseason poll shows that coaches from around the NAIA recognize our team as one of the toughest in the country at our level. Now we have to go out and prove that again this season."

Saint Xavier wraps up exhibition play on Tuesday, November 6, matching up against University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) at the UIC Pavilion. The second exhibition game is set to start at 6 p.m. The Cougars officially open their 2007-08 slate on Saturday, November 10, with a road game against McKendree University (Ill.) in Lebanon, Ill., at 7 p.m.
