CHICAGO - Behind big performances by senior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) and sophomore forward Erin Hannemann (Providence Catholic), the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team played a tough first half tying NCAA Division I foe DePaul University, 49-49, at the break in exhibition play Tuesday night at McGrath Arena in Chicago. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the second half was a different story as the Blue Demons used a 28-4 scoring run to pull away for a 111-70 victory.
Heine and Hannemann each finished Tuesday's exhibition with 16 points with Hannemann also pulling down eight rebounds, a team-best. In their first games with their new team, sophomore guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) and freshman point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) both played solid finishing with 11 and nine points, respectively. The Cougars shot an impressive 56 percent (15-for-27) in the first half and took a four-point lead late in the first half following a three-pointer by Heine. DePaul's senior guard Allie Quigley led all scorers with 24 points.
Saint Xavier wraps up exhibition play on Tuesday, November 6, matching up against University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) at the UIC Pavilion. The second exhibition game is set to start at 6 p.m.
