Pulaski, Tenn. - Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./Stagg) finished with 14 saves, but the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team fell just short dropping a 1-0 heartbreaker to 2005 defending NAIA champion and No. 1 ranked Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) Saturday at the Martin Methodist Classic in Pulaski, Tenn. The Red Hawks scored the game's lone goal in the 55th minute on a free kick by sophomore midfielder Lisa Mann.
"I'm so proud of the way our team came out and played today," said Saint Xavier head women's soccer coach Derek Begich. "This is the biggest game in our program's history and our student-athletes believed from the start that they could win this game. I think it speak volumes as to the type of season this team could have."
Saint Xavier (2-1 overall) wraps up play at the Classic this weekend with a Sunday match-up against No. 11 ranked Auburn-Montgomery College (Ala.). Game time is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Pulaski, Tenn.
