Milwaukee, Wis. – A combined 17 kills by senior outside hitter Sean Barry (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) and freshman middle blocker Ben Gabor (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic) could not alter the outcome as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell to Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Tuesday night in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action at Panella Court in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (2-6 overall/0-3 CCAC) dropped the match in three straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-20 despite 10 kills by Barry and seven from Gabor. The SXU offense struggled for consistency totaling 21 attacking errors compared to 29 team kills on the night (.083 attack percentage).
Barry and Brandon McGinnis (Evergreen Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Brother Rice) each finished the match with seven digs. Freshman setter Aaron Kummer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) recorded 16 assists and five digs for the Cougars, while senior outside hitter Dan O'Keefe (Evergreen Park, Ill./Loyola (La.)/St. Rita) added six kills and five digs.
Saint Xavier (2-6 overall/0-3 CCAC) continues its road stint on Friday, February 17, with a non-conference match against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Chicago.
