Elgin, Ill. - A goal in the 11th minute by senior midfielder Mark Howlett proved to be the game-winner as No. 1 seed Judson University (Ill.) defeated No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University (Ill.) Tuesday afternoon in the championship game of the 2007 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Tournament in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars fall to 9-11 overall with the loss, but still have a good chance of earning a berth in the six-team NAIA Region VII Men's Soccer Tournament, which starts on Friday, November 2.
Howlett scored the goal off an assist from the right side by sophomore midfielder James Romano. Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) played tough between the posts for SXU recording five saves. The Cougar offense was limited to just three shots on goal in the game despite taking nine corner kicks.
Saint Xavier (9-11 overall/6-3 CCAC) will await a seed in the 2007 NAIA Region VII Men's Soccer Tournament, which begins Friday. Judson earned an automatic berth in the region tourney by winning the CCAC Tournament.
