CHICAGO – With National Signing Day on the horizon on February 1, the Saint Xavier University football coaching staff continues to sign quality high school players from the local area as four more names recently joined the 2017 recruiting class.  SXU head coach Mike Feminis added a wide receiver, a strong safety, a linebacker and a kicker/punter in the latest group.  The newest members of the team are listed below along with a quote from Feminis on each:

Incoming freshman WR Dylan Leschewski (5-7, 170, Yorkville, Ill./Aurora Christian) – All-Chicago Catholic League First Team selection, 2016 Aurora Beacon-News All-Area First Team, 2016 Daily Herald All-Area Honorable Mention Team

"Dylan's a little guy, but he will be a difference maker for us," said Feminis.  "I hate to compare any high school player to Stephen Simms (former SXU standout receiver and return specialist), but that is who Dylan reminds me of a lot.  Like Stephen, he possesses that ability to make defenders miss and then has the breakaway speed to go the distance at any time."

Incoming freshman SS Johnny Goodson (6-1, 185, Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) – member of the 2016 IHSA Class 7A finalist Plainfield North team

"Johnny could be a huge get for us," said Feminis.  "He was nowhere near 100 percent for his entire senior year, because he was still recovering from a bad knee injury during his junior year.  Johnny's junior film as a safety was really impressive, so we will be excited to see him fully healthy when camp starts in August."

Incoming freshman K/P Mike Iturbe (5-11, 170, Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) – All-South Suburban Conference First Team selection, 2016 Daily Southtown All-Area Honorable Mention

"Mike's signing, along with Kyle Hassert (fellow 2017 SXU signee) last month, takes care of our kicking situation once Abdul Mahdi and Joe Bailey (current SXU kicker and punter) graduate next year," added Feminis. "Like Kyle, Mike does both placekicking and punting and has a terrific leg.  I saw him make a 51-yard field goal and he had plenty to spare which was impressive."

Incoming freshman LB Patrick Tubbs (5-10, 205, Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) – 2016 All-Sagamone Conference Honorable Mention team selection

"Patrick is a tough, hard-nosed player," said Feminis. "He will probably need a year or two to develop, but I think he can be a solid contributor for us in the future."
