CHICAGO – Junior guard Kara Krolicki (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) dropped a game-high 29 points as the No. 3 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team got back to its winning ways with a 113-50 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) Wednesday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The Cougars (17-1 overall/9-1 CCAC) shot 54 percent (45-for-83) from the field in the game, including a program-record 38 points in the third quarter alone behind an 80-percent (16-for-20) shooting clip.  Junior center Brittany Collins (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) also had a huge game for SXU with her second straight double-double effort of 18 points and 17 rebounds. 

Senior guard Mikayla Leyden (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) posted 18 points as well and added game-bests of eight assists and five steals for the Cougars.  Freshman guard Maddie Welter (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) recorded 10 points and five assists, while sophomore center Emily Gorsch (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community) added eight points and two rebounds in a reserve role.  It was a total team effort as all 12 Saint Xavier players to play in Wednesday's game scored at least two points.  With the game tied 4-4 at the 8:32 mark of the first quarter, the Cougars took control from there closing out the remainder of the quarter with an impressive 33-1 run.  The Bees struggled with SXU's defense throughout the game shooting just 23 percent (13-for-57) from the floor and committing 25 turnovers.        

Saint Xavier (17-1 overall/9-1 CCAC) heads to Hammond, Ind., on Saturday, January 14, for a CCAC road match-up against No. 15 ranked Purdue University-Northwest (Ind.).  The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Fitness & Recreation Center in Hammond.
