CHICAGO - Behind a goal apiece from senior forwards Alex Duncan (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) and Sinisa Vidakovic (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford College), the No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University men's soccer team defeated No. 6 seed Trinity Christian College (Ill.), 2-0, Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Tournament at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. With the victory, the Cougars (8-10 overall) advance to play No. 2 seed Trinity International University (Ill.) in CCAC semifinals action Saturday at 1 p.m. in Deerfield, Ill.
SXU scored its first goal in the 34th minute of play when Duncan took an assist from sophomore midfielder Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) to put his team ahead, 1-0. The Cougars added an insurance goal in the second half when Vidakovic punched a header past the TCC goalkeeper in the 62nd minute of play. Senior midfielder Matt Prunckle (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) sent the cross to Vidakovic for the assist. Sophomore Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) got the start in goal for SXU and recorded his fourth shutout of the season behind four saves. Trinity Christian's junior keeper Jamie Prins (Jenison, Mich.) finished Wednesday's game with six saves. The Cougars out-shot the Trolls, 12-6, in the game, including an 8-4 edge on shots on goal.
Saint Xavier (8-10 overall/6-3 CCAC) will play in the CCAC semifinals against No. 2 seed Trinity International University on Saturday, October 27, at 1 p.m. in Deerfield.
