Joliet, Ill. - Senior outfielder/relief pitcher Luke Gregerson (Lyons, Ill./Morton) was named the 2006 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Year as the Saint Xavier University baseball team earned six spots on the 2006 All-CCAC Baseball Team when the teams were announced Wednesday in Joliet, Ill. In addition to the player of the year honor, SXU also had freshman righthander Dan Miller (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) earn both CCAC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors, while coach Mike Dooley was named the 2006 CCAC Coach of the Year.

The Cougars nabbed five spots on the All-CCAC First Team with Gregerson earning first team recognition as both an outfielder and a relief pitcher. In addition, senior shortstop Brendan Christy (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), senior outfielder Chris Gruber (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), and Miller all represented Saint Xavier University as well on the first team squad. SXU had junior catcher Ryan Buchler (Schererville, Ind./South Suburban CC) receive a spot on the 2006 All-CCAC Honorable Mention team.

Gregerson is currently hitting .376 (65-for-173) this season with 11 doubles, five home runs, 41 runs scored, 44 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. On the mound, he has served as the team's primary closer and compiled a 2-1 win-loss record, a 1.10 earned run average (ERA), and six saves over 15 appearances. Miller has had an impressive debut season with SXU recording a team-high seven wins (7-1) over eight starts and has the lowest ERA (2.44) of any pitcher in Saint Xavier's starting rotation.

Starting 42 games at short this spring, Christy has been tough both offensively and defensively during his senior season in 2006. He is batting .352 (58-for-165) with 13 doubles, five triples, seven homers, 45 runs scored, and 33 RBI. Christy is also playing well as the team's starting shortstop with 53 putouts and 105 assists with only five errors. With the early part of his season hampered by injury, Gruber bounced back in April hitting a team-high .394 (43-for-109) with 13 doubles, two home runs, 34 runs scored, and 24 RBI.

Earning a spot on the All-CCAC Honorable Mention Team, Buchler has been a welcome addition to the Cougars this spring after transferring in from South Suburban Community College. At catcher, Buchler has recorded 273 putouts and 22 assists with just six errors, while hitting .308 (49-for-159) with nine doubles, six homers, and 37 RBI.

The Cougars (25-24 overall, 16-2 CCAC) will take on the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a non-conference doubleheader Friday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Ill. Start time for Friday's twinbill is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
