Grand Rapids, Mich. – Junior Abel Hernandez (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) took 32nd place overall in a field of 302 collegiate runners with an 8K (8,000 meters) time of 26:07 to lead the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team Saturday at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge Cross Country Invitational hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.) in Grand Rapids, Mich.  As a team, the Cougars finished with 521 points to take 17th place out of the 25 teams participating in the event.  Freshman Gabriel Esparza (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) also ran well for SXU Saturday finishing in 59th place with a personal-best 8K time of 26:37.

Sophomore Ivan Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) was next across the finish line for Saint Xavier with a personal-best time of 29:26.  Freshman Brian Baldwin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) also logged a new personal-best time as SXU's fourth finisher at 30:05.  Sophomore Sebastian Arroyo (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet West) completed the scoring for the Cougars with a time of 31:01, a personal-best time for him as well.

"The guys came out running confident and smart and it paid off with four of our runners recording personal-best times," said SXU men's cross country coach Kyle Rago.  "We are looking forward to running even better in two weeks for the conference meet."

Saint Xavier now prepares for the 2016 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 5.  The conference meet will be held at Channahon Community Park in Channahon, Ill., and scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
