Findlay, Ohio - For the second straight week and fifth time this season, Saint Xavier University senior kicker/punter Shane Longest (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Special Teams Player of the Week Tuesday for his performance last Saturday in SXU's 33-3 road win over Marian College (Ind.). In fact, Saint Xavier has won the MSFA Special Teams Player of the Week honor six of the seven weeks it has been awarded this season with sophomore wide receiver/kick returner Bill McKeon (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) earning it in week three.
As usual, Longest wore plenty of hats in Saturday's victory averaging 47.0 yards per punt on three attempts (including a 62-yarder), hitting a 20-yard field goal, and totaling 390 yards on six kickoffs (65.0 yards per kickoff) with three touchbacks. He was also a perfect 4-for-4 on his PAT attempts on the day.
Saint Xavier (7-1 overall/3-1 MSFA) gets ready for another big MSFA Mideast League match-up this Saturday when No. 11 Malone College (Ohio) comes to town. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. It is SXU's final regular-season home game of the 2007 season and the team will honor its seniors prior to the start of the contest.
