Women's Cross Country - Wed, Sep. 14, 2016

CHICAGO – Following its impressive second-place team finish in the season-opening University of St. Francis (Ill.) Twilight Invite back on September 2, the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team moved up five spots to No. 16 in the first regular season installment of the 2016 NAIA Women's Cross Country Top 25 Coaches' Poll released Wednesday by the NAIA national office.  The Cougars came into this season ranked No. 21 in the preseason poll released in mid-August.  SXU is the highest ranked Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) team in the poll.  The No. 16 ranking is also the highest for the program since 2011 when the team earned a No. 13 ranking during that season and ended it ranked No. 16 in the postseason poll.

"We are very excited as a group about this jump in the rankings," said SXU women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel.  "This is a very talented group of young women and they ran very well in our opening meet, so it is nice to see them rewarded for their hard work in the polls.  Our goal is to keep improving week after week and if we can keep doing that, then everything else will take care of itself."

Saint Xavier heads to South Bend, Ind., this Friday (September 16) to take part in the National Catholic Championships hosted by University of Notre Dame.  The meet will be held at the ND Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind., and feature plenty of tough competition.
