CHICAGO - Chris Spencer, a sophomore sprinter and long hurdler from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., has transferred to Saint Xavier University to continue both his athletic and academic career as a member of the Cougar men's track program. Prior to his one-year stint at EIU, Spencer attended Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Ill., and was coached by Tom Gavin.

Spencer is the son of Craig and Vicki Spencer of Frankfort, Ill. He plans to pursue degrees in biology and secondary education next year at Saint Xavier University. Spencer will run sprints and long hurdle events at SXU during the indoor and outdoor track seasons next year.

"Chris is so multi-faceted that I really haven't quite figured out his best event yet," said Saint Xavier University men's cross country/track coach Ed McAllister. "He brings maturity and an enormous work ethic to our program. As we move to add more events to our total program, Chris will lead the way. He is clearly a national caliber athlete in both sprints and long hurdles."
