CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University Athletics Director Bob Hallberg is pleased to announce the hire of Julie DeCarlo as head cheerleading coach for SXU Athletics.  DeCarlo was part of the original cheerleading team that formed back in 2002 and graduated from Saint Xavier University in 2006 with a degree in education and a minor in sociology.  She worked over seven years as a full-time teacher before becoming a stay-at-home mom for her two young daughters, Madison (4) and Gabriella (2).  DeCarlo is married to Anthony DeCarlo, a teacher and head baseball coach at Marian Catholic High School.  The family resides in Mount Greenwood.

"I am beyond excited to be given the opportunity to be a part of the Cougar Cheerleading program, once again," said DeCarlo.  "Cheerleading has always been a passion of mine and I look forward to showing my dedication to the cheerleaders and SXU community.  My goal is to establish a fun and positive atmosphere led by committed student-athletes."

DeCarlo begins immediately preparing the squad for the upcoming 2016-17 season and school year.  She can be reached via e-mail at [email protected]
