Women's Basketball - Sat, Nov. 11, 2006
CHICAGO - Behind a game-high tying 22 points from senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), the No. 17 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team got its season off on the right foot with a 88-69 victory over No. 12 ranked Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (1-0 overall) hit nine of its 14 three-point attempts in the first half (64 percent), including a 5-for-5 clip for Brown, to help build a 47-24 advantage at the half.

SXU also got a big game out of sophomore forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica), who finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) also scored in double figures for the Cougars with 12 points, while also chipping in five rebounds and three assists. The Sea Lions were led by junior guard Kerra Sutton-Wodarski, a transfer from NCAA Division I Pepperdine University, with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds. Junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) led SXU on the boards with eight rebounds. Point Loma Nazarene committed 25 turnovers in the ballgame and shot just 39 percent from the field (24-for-61) thanks in part to a stingy Cougars defense.

Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) heads to Deerfield, Ill., to take on non-conference NAIA foe Trinity International University (Ill.) on Tuesday, November 14. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
