Bensenville, Ill. - A second half goal by senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) in the 56th minute of regulation tied the game and led No. 9 ranked Saint Xavier University to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) in non-conference women's soccer action Thursday night in Bensenville, Ill. Sophomore Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg) was sensational in goal for the Cougars finishing with 11 saves to help secure the tie. The Blue Raiders took an early 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Kimmia Parker scored in the game's 13th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Omolyn Davis. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, SXU's Coby was able to punch one past the LWC goalkeeper just over 11 minutes into the second half to tie the game. Senior midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Bryan) and Wagner each tallied an assist on Coby's game-tying goal. Neither team would score during the remainder of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. Lindsey Wilson recorded 12 shots on goal in the game compared to just four by the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (13-1-1 overall/7-1 CCAC) will host No. 5 Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) on Saturday, October 13, at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start and will follow the Lindsey Wilson and Robert Morris College (Ill.) match-up set for a 5:30 p.m. start at Saint Xavier.
