Women's Cross Country - Wed, Oct. 28, 2015

CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University sophomore Ellie Willging (Freeport, Ill./UIC/Freeport) celebrated her birthday in a big way this past Saturday by claiming the top spot at the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede en route to earning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week distinction, which was announced on Wednesday by the league office.  It was the second time this season that Willging has earned the conference award.

Willging ran the 5K (5,000 meters) course in an impressive time of 17:59, 33 seconds faster than her next closest challenger on the wet, windy course.  Her performance helped lead the No. 23 ranked Cougars to a third-place team finish at the meet, which was hosted by Mount Mercy University (Iowa).  A total of 20 teams made up of 167 runners were in Saturday's field.

Saint Xavier is preparing for the 2015 CCAC Cross Country Championships, which take place on Saturday, November 7.  Olivet Nazarene University will host the big meet held at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.  The women's race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
