CHICAGO - Brittany Jones, a 5-11 senior forward at Andrew High School in Tinley Park, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's basketball program. Jones, a Tinley Park native, is the first official signee of SXU head coach Bob Hallberg's 2008 recruiting class.

Jones is coached by Bob Matz at Andrew High School and averaged 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds a game as a junior for the Thunderbolts. She received first team all-conference recognition in the SICA West last season. Jones is also a member of the Wolverines club team. She is the daughter of Tim and Pam Jones of Tinley Park.

"We like to recruit very athletic players, because they fit the mold for our up-tempo style of play," said Hallberg. "Her ability to play both inside and outside will blend in well with our roster and I expect Brittany to jump right in next season and make an immediate impact."

Saint Xavier is getting ready for another big season after finishing 29-3 overall and earning a spot in the NAIA's Sweet 16 during the 2006-07 campaign. The Cougars open their new slate with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I DePaul University (Ill.) on Tuesday, October 30. Game time for the exhibition is scheduled for 7 p.m. at McGrath Arena in Chicago
