South Bend, Ind. – A 13th place overall finish by sophomore Ellie Willging (Freeport, Ill./UIC/Freeport) at the prestigious National Catholic Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame (Ind.) was the big highlight for the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team Friday afternoon at the Burke Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.  Willging finished second overall among the College Division runners at the meet with an amazing time of 18:08.3 in the 5K (5,000 meters) race.  There were 25 non-NCAA Division I programs represented in the field of 299 collegiate runners.  As a team, the Cougars placed ninth in the College Division standings with a team score of 252.

Junior Nicole Maier (Burbank, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Reavis) was the second finisher for SXU at the National Catholic Invitational posting an impressive time of 19:18.3 for 87th place.  Sophomore Sierra Downey (Stickney, Ill./Morton College/Morton West) finished next for the Cougars with a time of 20:21.5 for 162nd place.  Junior Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) and freshman Jess Wittmayer (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) were the final two scorers for Saint Xavier with times of 20:28.7 and 20:42.9, respectively.  Junior Courtney Correa (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) and freshman Jillian Siemiawski (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) rounded out the SXU competitors Friday.  Correa recorded a time of 21:17.6, while Siemiawski had a time of 24:41.4.

Saint Xavier takes some time off before its next meet, the Pilot Invite hosted by Bethel College (Ind.), on Friday, October 9.  The meet is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (eastern) start at Saint Patrick Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
