Deerfield, Ill. - Senior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) and junior outside hitter Mallory Winkler (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace) combined for nine service aces as the Saint Xavier University volleyball team earned a big Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Trinity International University (Ill.) Tuesday night in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars (12-10 overall, 4-1 CCAC) dropped the first game, 27-30, but rolled the rest of the way winning the next three 30-20, 30-22, 30-25.
In addition to her team-leading five service aces, Winkler also finished with seven kills and 10 digs. Looby helped set up the offense with 42 assists to go along with her four aces. Senior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) led the offensive attack with 16 kills, while senior middle blocker Eileen Carls (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was tough defensively with six total blocks, including four solos. Senior libero Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College) finished with a team-best 22 digs.
Saint Xavier (12-10 overall, 4-1 CCAC) takes a week off before continuing its CCAC schedule on Tuesday, October 9, with a home match against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The match will begin at 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
