Bourbonnais, Ill. – Sophomore transfer Ellie Willging (Freeport, Ill./UIC/Freeport) put on an impressive show in her first meet with the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team at the Midwest Classic Cross Country Invitational hosted by Olivet Nazarene University Friday afternoon at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill.  Willging sprinted to the finish line with race winner Sarah Ray from Olivet Nazarene and just missed the top spot in the 5K (5,000 meters) race by less than a half second.  She posted an official time of 18:34.47 in her first competition as a Cougar.  As a team, SXU finished third overall out of the eight teams competing in the meet behind 64 points in its first meet of the 2015 season.
   
Junior transfer Nicole Maier (Burbank, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Reavis) was next across the finish line for Saint Xavier Friday turning in a solid time of 19:54.49 for eighth place in the field of 98 runners.  Freshman Jess Wittmayer (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) and junior Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) took 17th and 18th place with times of 20:20.80 and 20:28.78, respectively.  Junior Courtney Correa (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) completed the team scoring in 25th place overall with a time of 21:02.49.
 
Saint Xavier returns to action on Friday, September 18, at the National Catholic Championships hosted by University of Notre Dame (Ind.).  The prestigious collegiate meet is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (eastern) start at the University of Notre Dame Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
