CHICAGO – Led by 20 points, 17 rebounds and five steals by senior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers), No. 4 ranked Saint Xavier University advanced to the semifinals of the 2015 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Tournament with an 80-68 win over Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) in quarterfinals action Wednesday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The victory marks the 17th straight for the red-hot Cougars, which ties the program record for consecutive wins set back during the 2009-10 season.  SXU came out strong early using a 15-0 run near the midpoint of the first half to build a 36-15 lead late in the first half, which helped lead to a 50-22 halftime advantage.

Junior center Caitlin McMahon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) posted a double-double effort as well for Saint Xavier with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Freshman guard Kara Krolicki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) scored 13 points for the cause, while senior guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) chipped in 11 and sophomore center Brittany Collins (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) had 10.  Sophomore guard Mikayla Leyden (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) tied her career-best mark Wednesday with a game-high 10 assists.  Senior center Maegen Callaway led the Titans with 24 points and seven blocked shots on the night.

The game was close in the early goings and SXU held a 21-15 lead with 12:30 left to play in the opening half.  A fast-break lay-up by Collins set up by her own blocked shot on the other end sparked a 15-0 run over the next four minutes of action to put the hosts up, 36-15.  A lay-up by McMahon in the closing seconds of the half gave the Cougars a 28-point lead (50-22) at the break, its largest lead of the frame.  The Saint Xavier offense struggled to sink its shots in the second half and IUSB took advantage hitting 71 percent (17-for-24) of its second-half field goal opportunities.  The Titans whittled the deficit down to nine points (74-65) with 2:33 left to play, but the Cougars hung on to capture the quarterfinals victory.

Saint Xavier (28-2 overall/18-0 CCAC) advances to the semifinals of the CCAC Tournament and will host the remainder of the tournament at the Shannon Center this weekend.  The Cougars take on rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 27, on Bob Hallberg Court.
