Men's Cross Country - Mon, Jan. 23, 2006
CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's track team initiated its first season at the impressive Eastern Illinois University Mega-Meet in Charleston, Ill., on Saturday, January 21. The initial entry included just two student-athletes, freshman Ronald Lavaire (Shelbyville, Ill./Shelbyville) and sophomore Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington). While currently small in numbers, the Cougars were strong in talent. Lavaire competed in both the 800 meters and the indoor mile, turning in an impressive time of 4:37 for the mile and clocking a fine 2:07 for the 800. Bugarin was even more impressive, finishing third overall in the 5000-meter run in the stellar time of 15:48.

"Based upon our training, and the time of year, I'm very satisfied with the performances of both of these men," stated SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "I can only see enormous improvements out of both of these men. Steven was especially impressive. Running a time like that this early in the season."

The meet was unscored. The Cougars will go into action next on Saturday, February 4, at the Titan Open at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill.
