Mount Pleasant, Iowa - Senior outfielder/relief pitcher Luke Gregerson (Lyons, Ill./Morton) and junior pitcher Ryan Quigley (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) both represented Saint Xavier University on the 2006 NAIA Region VII Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team when the team was released by the Region VII Information Director Monday. To qualify, student-athletes must be least a junior in academic standing and possess a 3.25 or better cumulative grade-point average (GPA).
"Luke and Ryan are proven winners, both in the classroom and on the field," said SXU baseball coach Mike Dooley. "As a coach and educator at Saint Xavier, I know the demands that it takes to excel in these two areas and I tip my hat to both of them for being able to manage their schedules so effectively."
The Cougars (27-24 overall, 16-2 CCAC) will open the 2006 NAIA Region VII Tournament on Wednesday, May 10, with a game against No. 6 seeded Grand View College (Iowa). Start time for Wednesday's game is 11 a.m. at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Ill.
