Milwaukee, Wis. – Opening the first eight minutes of the second half with a 20-3 scoring run, the No. 4 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team made a statement Saturday afternoon in a 74-49 road win over No. 5 Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in a key Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) showdown on Panella Court in Milwaukee, Wis.  The Cougars (21-2 overall/12-0 CCAC) have been on a tear winning their 10th straight game and 19th of their last 20 with the lone setback coming against No. 1 Morningside College (Iowa), 83-77, back on December 20, 2014.  Senior forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) led the charge logging her 17th double-double of the season behind 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.  The victory also brought CSU's 16-game win streak to an end with its last loss coming against Saint Xavier, 77-57, back on November 19, 2014.

Freshman guard Kara Krolicki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) also had a nice outing for SXU Saturday posting 21 points, five rebounds and four assists.  Sophomore guard Mikayla Leyden (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) scored in double figures as well with 12 points.  The Wolves were led in scoring by seniors Michelle Piepenburg and Brianna Hawthorne with seven points apiece.  Defense was the key to success for the Cougars as they were rude guests holding the hosts to just 27 percent shooting from the floor (16-for-60) and helping cause 17 CSU turnovers behind six steals.  Three-point shooting was also a key factor as SXU connected on nine of its 22 attempts from the arc for a 41 percent clip.

The game lived up to its billing in the first half with both teams exchanging leads in the opening minutes.  With the score tied 17-17, Stuut sank a three-pointer near the six-minute mark of the first half that gave some late momentum to the Cougars.  SXU never trailed again in the game.  Stritch cut the deficit to a point, 27-26, with 1:45 remaining in the half, but a big three-pointer by Krolicki with under a minute to play helped the Cougars take a four-point edge (32-28) into the halftime break.  A three-point play by Stuut to open the second half provided the spark for SXU's hot start.  A pair of free throws later in the frame extended the lead to 21 points (52-31) with just under 12 minutes left to play.  The Cougars pushed the lead as high as 30 points in the closing minutes.

Saint Xavier (21-2 overall/12-0 CCAC) faces another tough ranked conference foe on the road on Wednesday, February 4, for a battle with No. 11 ranked Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.).  The big CCAC match-up is set for a 5 p.m. start Wednesday in Hammond, Ind.
