Milwaukee, Wis. - Senior midfielder Matt Prunckle (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into the second overtime period to lift Saint Xavier University to a thrilling 2-1 win over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's soccer action Wednesday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (3-5 overall/2-1 CCAC) rallied late from an early 1-0 deficit to earn its second straight victory.
Freshman forward Jamie Robertson put Cardinal Stritch on the scoreboard first when he scored an unassisted goal in the game's 32nd minute. With just under six minutes to play in regulation, senior forward Alex Duncan (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) tied the game, 1-1, on a goal off an assist from senior defender Tim Kopec (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC). Following a scoreless first overtime period, Prunckle notched the game-winning goal just over a minute into the second overtime following a pass from sophomore forward Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick). Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) played well in goal for the Cougars finishing with seven games in the winning effort.
Saint Xavier (3-5 overall/2-1 CCAC) continues its CCAC slate on Saturday, September 29, with a home game against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
