Milwaukee, Wis. - Led by two goals apiece for senior midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Bryan) and junior midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley), the No. 15 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team posted a 5-0 win over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Wednesday in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (9-1 overall/3-1 CCAC) took a 3-0 advantage into the halftime break and scored two more goals in second half play to secure the conference victory.
Senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) also played well for SXU recording three assists in the game. Saint Xavier got its first goal in the eighth minute of play when Sudar scored off a Coby assist. Ten minutes later, Scigalski found the back of the net to build a 2-0 lead for her team off assists from Coby and senior defender Cassie Rumpf (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central). In the 29th minute, the Cougars struck again when Sudar notched her second goal of the game off a pass from senior midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South).
In the second half, Scigalski picked up her second goal in the 68th minute with assists from Coby and sophomore midfielder Jessica Martinez (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg. Saint Xavier's final goal came with just seconds left to play in regulation when sophomore forward Cecilia Cline (Chicago, Ill./Ashford University/De La Salle) scored off a Sudar assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg) recorded her fifth shutout of the season, but did not have to save a shot in the entire 90 minutes of play.
SXU (9-1 overall/3-1 CCAC) returns home to face CCAC foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Saturday, September 29. The game is slated for a 11 a.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
