CHICAGO - Sophomore goalkeeper James Kline (Canton, Ohio/Perry) posted two saves and a shutout as the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team defeated St. Ambrose University (Iowa), 2-0, in non-conference action Wednesday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The victory was not only SXU's first win this season (1-2 overall), but also its first shutout.
The Cougars took an early lead in the game's 15th minute when freshman forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point) found the back of the net off an assist from junior midfielder Matt Prunckle (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice). Saint Xavier tacked on its second goal in the 37th minute of play when Prunckle found sophomore midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) open in front of the net for the final score.
SXU (1-2 overall) stays at home for a non-conference match-up against Aquinas College (Mich.) on Saturday, September 9, at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Game time is slated for 1:30 p.m.
