CHICAGO - Behind three goals from senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community), the No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team picked up a big 7-0 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) Friday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (8-1 overall/2-1 CCAC) scored six goals in the first half alone and tallied 17 shots, including 14 shots on goal, in the game.
Recording the other four goals for SXU in Friday's victory were freshman forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), senior midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South), and two for sophomore forward Cecilia Cline (Chicago, Ill./Ashford University/De La Salle). Cline also recorded an assist in the game along with senior midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Bryan), freshman defender Nikki Gendron (Rockford, Ill./Boylan), junior midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley), sophomore midfielder Kelsey Miller (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley), and freshman defender Katie DuPree (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South). Sophomore Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg) and freshman Emily Cope (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) combined in goal for the shutout. Wagner played the first half with no saves, while Cope picked up two saves in the second half.
SXU (8-1 overall/2-1 CCAC) continues its CCAC slate on Wednesday, September 26, with a road game against Cardinal Stritch University. The game is slated for a 5 p.m. start in Milwaukee.
