CHICAGO – Senior Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) represented the Saint Xavier University men's golf team recently when the list of 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Golf Scholar-Athletes was released by the NAIA national office. Ryan is an accounting major at SXU and owns a 3.66 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status. He was one of 114 men's golf student-athletes nationwide to earn the distinction.
"I'm so proud of Brendan for earning this special honor," said Saint Xavier University golf coach Mike Mandakas. "It is not easy to balance the workload of being a college athlete and a successful student, but Brendan definitely makes it look that way. He was a huge part of our success as a team this season and it is great to see him recognized for his hard work in the classroom as well."
Ryan helped the SXU men's golf team win the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championship in the program's second year of competition. The squad earned an automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships and finished 24th overall in the field of 29 of the NAIA's top golf teams.
