Freshman Taylor Thompson tied for 67th place out of 144 golfers after Tuesday's round of 18

Lincoln, Neb. - Saint Xavier University freshman Taylor Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) had a solid opening round in her first action Tuesday at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.  She shot an 11-over par for a score of 83 to tie for 67th place in the competitive field of 144 of the NAIA's top golfers.  The format for the NAIA National Championships is to play three rounds of 18 holes (54 total) over the course of three days (Tuesday to Thursday) with the goal of qualifying for Friday's fourth and final round, which is only open to the top 40 individual golfers by score after the first three rounds of competition.  Thompson is scheduled to tee off at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday for her second round of play.
