Daytona Beach, Fla. – Saint Xavier University junior Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) was named to the North Region squad of the 2014 NAIA PING All-Region Team when the honors were released Thursday afternoon by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Bahnick was one of SXU's top golfers this season helping the team win the 2014 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championship and an automatic berth to the 2014 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships in only the program's second season of competition. He also finished in a tie as the top individual finisher at the 2014 CCAC Championship.
"Kyle has overcome a lot of adversity this season and is well deserving of this award," said Saint Xavier University head golf coach Mike Mandakas
. "After breaking his collarbone in January, he was told he wouldn't be able to compete this season, but Kyle didn't take 'no' for an answer, as he worked everyday with our trainers and in the weight room to get his strength back to compete. Not only did he return to competition, but his hard work paid off as his scoring average dropped more than two shots from last year helping the team win a conference championship. Kyle is a great golfer and team leader as he represents our golf program and University better than anyone I know."
Bahnick is currently in Daytona Beach, Fla., with the rest of the SXU men's golf team wrapping up play at the 2014 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships at LPGA International. After two rounds, the Cougars were in 20th place out of the 29 teams competing with a team score of 608 (310, 298).
