Naperville, Ill. – Key performances by seniors Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) and Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) highlighted the Dr. Keeler Invitational over the weekend for the Saint Xavier University women's outdoor track team in its regular season finale in Naperville, Ill. Wallace earned a season-best time of 11:26.61 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 14th place finish, while Shares took fourth place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:59.03. SXU now prepares for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., where the team's individual qualifiers will compete starting on May 22.
Some of the other Cougar performances from the Dr. Keeler Invite were a 36th place finish in the 800-meter run by junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers) with a time of 2:23.14 and a 39th place finish by freshman Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) in 2:23.81. Sophomore Ann Kolker (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) took 43rd overall in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:05.79.
Saint Xavier sends two individuals and a 4x800 meter relay team to compete at the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in late May. Wallace qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Shares will run the marathon at the national meet. The relay team consists of Rosario, Watkins, senior Anna Galvez (Glenview, Ill./Oakton CC/Maine East) and sophomore Lexi McDermid (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township).
