CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University freshman Taylor Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) won individual medalist honors at the 2014 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Golf Championships last Thursday and has also earned the league's Women's Golfer of the Week award when it was announced on Tuesday. Thompson, who earns the weekly distinction for the second time this season, won the individual title after firing a 160 over two rounds.
She opened with an 81 on the par-70 course at Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont, Ill. on Wednesday before rallying from a four-stroke deficit with a 79 on Thursday to claim the tourney title. The women's golf championships were the first in CCAC history. As a team, Thompson led Saint Xavier to a fifth-place finish in the program's first season of competition.
Thompson won the first conference women's golfer of the week honor of her young career back on March 17. She finished in a tie for sixth place at the Embry-Riddle Spring Invitational in Prescott, Ariz., with a two-day score of 157 (78, 79) in SXU's first tournament of the spring season to earn the distinction.
