CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University sophomore Nicole Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) has claimed her second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week award after her efforts during the seven-day period from April 20-27 when it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. Nonnemacher went 3-1 on the week with her lone loss coming in a 1-0 road setback to Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) on Friday. For the week, she totaled 54 Ks and just 11 walks in 35 innings topped by a 16-strikeout effort in a 6-1 win over Judson University (Ill.) to open the week.
Nonnemacher also went toe-to-toe with NAIA No. 4-ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) with the game ending in a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning. In that contest, she struck out 10 batters, one of four times in five appearances on the week that she hit the double-figure mark in strikeouts. Nonnemacher closed out the seven-day period with a pair of 4-0 shutouts of Siena Heights University (Mich.) and Concordia University (Mich.) on Saturday and Sunday to finish with a 0.80 earned run average for the week. Opponents also hit just .143 off her. Nonnemacher, who boasts an 18-3 record with two saves, leads the nation in earned run average with a sparkling 0.37 mark. She also ranks second in strikeouts per game (11.03) and fourth in both hits allowed per game (3.45) and opponents' batting average (.143).
Saint Xavier went 7-2-1 on the week to improve to 42-5-1 overall and 17-2-1 in CCAC play, two games behind front-running Olivet Nazarene. The Cougars are currently ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll.
