Bensenville, Ill. – Cranking out 15 hits for eight runs in the opener, the Saint Xavier University baseball team rolled to an 8-2 victory in the first game of a key Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road doubleheader with Robert Morris University (Ill.) Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field in Bensenville, Ill.  Unfortunately, the Cougars (19-26 overall/13-11 CCAC) could not carry that offensive momentum into the day's second game posting only six hits in a 10-0 loss in seven innings.  SXU remains in a tight conference race with three other teams for one of the final spots in next week's six-team CCAC Baseball Tournament.  The Cougars are tied with RMU for the final two spots with identical 13-11 conference records and three games left to play, including a pivotal Sunday match-up to wrap up the three-game series.

SXU got off to a great start in game one with senior left fielder Brad Myjak (Tinley Park, Ill./Mount Carmel) hitting a two-run, two-out single to right field in the top of the first inning.  An RBI double by senior pitcher Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) and sacrifice flies by sophomore shortstop Alec Barnhart (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and junior second baseman Damon Softcheck (Joliet, Ill./Triton JC/Joliet West) in the top of the fourth pushed Saint Xavier's lead to 5-0.  The Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly, but the Cougars put the game away in the top of the sixth with three more runs off a two-run single by Barnhart and a sacrifice fly by Myjak.  Klein got the victory (4-2) on the mound throwing all seven frames and allowing six hits, two runs (both earned) and no walks with nine strikeouts.
Hits were hard to come by in the second game for Saint Xavier as the visitors managed just six, all singles, in a 10-0 loss.  Junior third baseman Bryan Villanova (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) was the only Cougar to finish the late game with multiple hits going 2-for-3 at the plate.  RMU finished with 16 hits, including three doubles and a triple, to score at least a run in every inning but the fifth.  Freshman Jesse Lopez (Chicago, Ill./Washington) suffered the loss (4-4) for SXU in game two.  Lopez went three innings and gave up seven hits, five runs (all earned) and two walks with a strikeout.
Saint Xavier (19-26 overall/13-11 CCAC) wraps up its conference series with Robert Morris on Sunday, April 27, with a home game at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago.  Prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. start, the SXU baseball program will honor the five seniors on its 2014 roster in a pre-game ceremony for "Senior Day."
