Lemont, Ill. - Turning in a round of 79 Thursday in the second and final day of the 2014 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Golf Championship, Saint Xavier University freshman Taylor Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) overcame a four-stroke deficit from day one to capture the individual title for the event at Gleneagles Golf Course in Lemont, Ill. Thompson shot a two-day total of 160 (81, 79) to earn the title and led SXU, a first-year program, to a fifth-place team finish at the conference tournament with a combined score of 785. Olivet Nazarene won the team title with a total score of 671.
Freshman Courtney Dudgeon
(Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) finished in a tie for 14th place for the Cougars with a two-day score of 182 (91, 91). Freshman Katie Reno
(Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tied for 20th place with a score of 191 (89, 102), while freshman Ashley Anderson
(Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) placed 31st with a score of 252 (130, 122).
"Taylor played great all season long, but grew up real fast when everything was on the line the last two days in our conference championship with a come-from-behind victory," said SXU golf coach Mike Mandakas
. "We made it her goal from the beginning of the season to win the conference championship in her freshman season. She is improving every tournament and I'm excited to see how many more victories she has in her young collegiate golf career."
